YABA: THE HUB OF EDUCATION

The statue in the pictures below was erected in the Sabo area of Yaba, Lagos. And it was recently commissioned by Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Executive Governor of Lagos State.

The artwork titled "YOUTH EMPOWERMENT", a project by Iponri Studio/Terra Kulture for the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture signifies the different phases of education which the Yaba community represents i.e different primary schools, secondary schools e.g the famous Igbobi College, Wesley College, Reagan Girls, Queens College e.t.c as well as tertiary institutions like the University of Lagos, Yaba College of Technology, Federal College of Education-Akoka etc.

Yaba also has the national headquarters of the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) as well as the National Library and other local libraries, not forgetting the different tech establishments that made Yaba to be tagged the "Silicon Valley Of Africa".
